Microsoft launches Copilot 'super app' to rival Office

Microsoft has officially unveiled a redesigned Copilot app that bundles AI chat, coding help, and a personal assistant into one place. The company believes it could become as important to users as Microsoft Office.

Microsoft has officially launched its new Copilot app today, and the company is betting big that it will become as essential to your daily work as Microsoft Office has been for decades.

So what exactly is changing? The new Copilot app combines three different AI tools into a single, unified experience. Think of it like having a Swiss Army knife instead of carrying three separate tools. You get chat capabilities (for asking questions and getting answers), coding assistance (for writing and fixing computer code), and something called Autopilot—which is Microsoft's rebranded AI personal assistant that can handle routine tasks for you automatically.

When you open the app, you'll see three main tabs: Home, Code, and Autopilot. The Home tab is where you'll land first, and it brings together chat and collaboration features. Microsoft is also adding a personalized dashboard called "Today" that will show you important information at a glance, similar to how your phone's home screen might display the weather or your calendar.

Why does this matter? Microsoft is essentially trying to create a single entry point for AI help in your work life—whether you need to brainstorm ideas, write code, or automate repetitive tasks. If successful, this could change how people work, much like how Office changed productivity decades ago.
