OpenAI has introduced a new Admin plugin designed to help companies manage ChatGPT Work and Codex — two AI tools that assist with writing, coding, and problem-solving — more effectively in their organizations.

Think of this plugin as a control center for managers. It lets company administrators see how much their team members are using ChatGPT, who has access to which features, and how many requests (the times people ask the AI for help) are being made. Managers can also adjust permissions — deciding who gets to use the tool and who doesn't — and set usage limits to prevent the system from becoming overloaded.

For most employees, this probably won't feel like much has changed. You'll still use ChatGPT the same way. But for IT managers and company leaders, this is a significant update. It gives them the visibility and control they need to roll out AI tools safely across their organization, similar to how they manage other software employees use daily. This kind of management tool is becoming standard as more companies adopt AI into their workflows.

The plugin also handles admin requests — allowing managers to perform routine maintenance tasks without needing technical expertise. OpenAI hasn't provided extensive details yet, but this appears to be part of a broader push to make AI tools more practical and manageable for real-world business use.
