AI now handles two-thirds of customer service calls
A company called Ringg is using AI to answer customer service calls automatically. The system can now resolve about 65% of calls without human help—and costs far less than before.
Customer service is about to change. Ringg, a customer communication platform, has built AI agents (automated software assistants trained to handle specific tasks) powered by OpenAI's latest technology, GPT-5.6 (a large language model—basically a sophisticated AI trained on huge amounts of text to understand and respond to human language).
Here's what's remarkable: these AI agents can now resolve up to 65% of incoming customer calls completely on their own. That means two out of every three people calling in get their problem solved by AI without waiting for a human representative. The system works across multiple channels too—phone calls, text chat, WhatsApp, and web support—all in multiple languages.
But the biggest win for businesses? Cost. Using this new AI system costs about 90% less than using the older GPT-4.1 model (an earlier version of similar AI technology). For companies spending thousands on customer service teams, that's a dramatic difference. Lower costs mean businesses can either save money or invest those savings into better customer experiences.
This doesn't mean human customer service is disappearing. For the roughly 35% of calls that are too complex or sensitive for AI to handle, trained humans still step in. The real shift is that AI now handles the routine questions—refund requests, account lookups, simple troubleshooting—freeing up human agents to focus on problems that actually need a human touch.
