Roland launches AI music tool for everyday producers

Roland, the company famous for drum machines and synthesizers, has unveiled Melody Flip — a new artificial intelligence tool designed to help musicians create melodies and musical ideas faster.

Here's how it works: Melody Flip is a plug-in (a piece of software that adds features) for DAWs — that's "Digital Audio Workstations," the software musicians use to record and arrange music on their computers. The tool comes with around 250 pre-made Palettes, which are basically collections of musical ideas organized by genre — think of them as starting-point templates for different styles of music.

Unlike AI music apps you might have heard of like Suno or Udio that generate complete, finished songs with vocals and everything, Melody Flip works differently. You can start from scratch and ask it to generate just the parts you need: a melody, chord progression (the underlying harmonic structure), a bassline, or drum patterns. Or, if you already have a song idea, you can feed it a reference track and let AI build on the musical ideas it finds there. Think of it as a creative assistant that helps fill in the blanks, rather than doing all the work for you.

This matters because many musicians and producers spend hours on the repetitive parts of songwriting. A tool like this could speed up that process, letting creators focus on the parts that need their personal touch and artistry.
